The Truth and the Lies About Michael Jordan Cauley

A man with a history of deception and disruption

Recently a smear campaign has been initiated against the Universal Life Church Monastery and Brother George Freeman, by Michael J. Cauley, of Crawfordville, FL. The following is intended to set the record straight as to the Truth and Lies, according to a former disgruntled ex-moderator, and irrefutable court records.

The Truth is that Mr. Cauley was fired due to allegations of sexual harassment, a record of criminal charges with convictions of fraud and child neglect, and for the purported theft of minister data. When he demanded undeserved monies, he threatened to undertake a vendetta and smear campaign, seeking to mislead ministers about the legitimacy of ordinations, as well as demanding monies for his own questionable “church”, that operates out of his trailer in Crawfordville, Florida.

The Beginning

Michael J. Cauley and Daniel Chapin were two moderators for the ULC Ministers Network. After the receipt of numerous complaints about Chapin accepting monies for services not rendered, Chapin was terminated and Cauley started full time moderating.

Coincidentally, Cauley was involved at the same time in his own multi-level-marketing project (the legal version of a pyramid scheme) called Universal Fortune Group. He has two registered complaints against him at the Better Business Bureau, which stated

“When considering complaint information, please take into account the company’s size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm’s responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.

BBB processed a total of 2 complaints about Universal Fortune Group in the last 36months, our standard reporting period. Of the total of 2 complaints closed in 36 months, 1 was closed in the last year.”

In April of 2010, 2 members filed complaints about Cauley, alleging he was harassing and calling a disabled female member of the network. Proof was never substantiated, and he remained on board as a moderator.

In May of 2010, additional complaints were lodged against Cauley, particularly from a NY woman who claimed he was sending threatening e-mails to her work. She filed a police report, that states: “…(Michael) threatened to interfere in my job…I was too upset by his implied threat to speak with him directly at that point.” “Continued contact of me and/or my loved ones including (redacted) or my family members and friends in any form as well as interference with my employment…will be regarded as harassment/stalking and treated as such. (Quotes from applicable Police files).

In August of 2010, as Cauley was attacking all other ULC churches, a 4th member claiming harassment sent us a copy of a background check on him that included criminal charges of fraud and child negligence. This was also the beginning of the “Order of St. Michaels”, an alleged branch of the Universal Life Church that processed ordinations for a large fee to each minister.

When we learned of these ongoing activities, and of his criminal background, we immediately terminated his access to our network. He resigned the same day. His response to his termination was to initiate a barrage of e-mails to many of our ministers, inciting lies about the legitimacy of ULC Ordinations.

Truth and Lies…Especially Michael Cauley’s Lies

1. Free Ordinations are not legal

Cauley claims ULC Monastery ordinations are not legal because they are recorded online and not sent via post. This is absolutely not true. This is nothing more than a scare tactic by Cauley to get you to pay him monies to do what can be done for free.

2. Is the Monastery in Business Legally?

In the fall of 2010, Cauley wrote that Br. George Freeman was “permanently enjoined and banned from participating in any type of worship…ever again by Seattle law enforcement and the Superior Court of King’s (sic) County.” He states that published news articles from more than 25 years ago, and the actual court transcript corroborate his wild claims.

The statements by Cauley are false and misleading. On July 29, 1985, Judge Gerard M. Shellan, of the King County Superior Court of the State of Washington wrote:

“This injunction shall in no way apply or relate to any expression of religious belief, whatever or wherever that may be, or to any worship that is incidental to such belief so long as such conduct does not impact or violate any compelling state interest.”

A Seattle attorney familiar with the file and case stated in response to Cauley’s claims, “Accordingly, Brother George Freeman has been, and will continue to be, lawfully entitled to follow his religious convictions and belief in his worship under the Universal Life Church Monastery, in the City of Seattle, the County of King, the State of Washington, or anywhere else in God’s universe. To allege otherwise is false and misleading , and is legally actionable.”

3. Cauley’s Church and Christian Academy

Cauley claims to have a church that holds regular services and is associated with a ULC Christian Academy led by Pastor Michael Cauley. There is no record of his real estate holdings, only a trailer out of which he operates his website.

He has lured unsuspecting ministers by claiming that his costly ordinations come with the potential for job placement. He posted a misleading image of a billboard-style sign on his public Facebook page to help perpetuate this deception. The sign is, however, a fake from a website called says-it.com, where you can create your own church signs.

Despite our many requests, and those from many disgruntled customers, he is unable to provide proof of any kind that validates the existence of such a church and/or Academy school.

The old saying is that “the Truth shall set us free.” The truth is that the ULC Monastery is in business legally, Monastery ordinations are legal, and Brother George Freeman is entitled to express his religious beliefs, “whatever or wherever that may be.” The lies and deception perpetrated by evil souls, like Cauley, must be repudiated, ignored and thrown out with the garbage that is his empty rhetoric.

8. Michael Cauley Lies About his Address to Dodge Appearing in Court

After being served, Michael Cauley claimed that he never lived at Rock Hole Road. In a further attempt to delay court proceedings, Mr. Cauley rented a home in Carrabelle, Florida, to ensure that the case would have to be tranferred from Wakulla to Franklin County.
